Collectible glass christmas ornaments ...

The company most famous throughout the 1940's and 1950's for producing glass christmas ornaments was called Shiny Brite.   You might remember this company's pastel, metallic colored spikes, cones and balls which were often decorated with stenciled-on glittery designs.  Shiny Brite produced every kind of christmas ornament imaginable including the 'atomic age' styles that have now reached the status of being christmas collectible glass ornaments.

Shiny Brite is now owned by the Radko company, which specializes in manufacturing retro christmas collectible glass ornaments.  The story behind the resurrection of the Shiny Brite brand is quite interesting.  Apparently the CEO, Scott Radko decided to buy the brand after he tipped over his christmas tree and smashed all of his grandmothers prized glass christmas ornaments.  His answer for replacing them was to create a company that would start maufacturing the original designs again.

Although Radko and Shiny Brite are now the industry leaders when it comes to manufacturing and selling glass christmas ornaments they are not the only company that specializes in retro-look xmas tree decorations.  There are scores of sites selling everything from Slavic hand blown glass ornaments to ornaments made of recycled glass.

However if the cost of buying angel christmas ornaments is prohibitive then you can easily make your own.  The most basic angel can be constructed out of two styrofoam balls.  A large styrofoam ball serves as the angel's body and a smaller one serves as the angel's head.  Fabric or sequins can then be attached to the body to create an angel's gown and features created out of paper or markers for the angel's face.  Use tufts of cotton batten or tinsel to make angel hair and feathers or fabric to create the angel's wings.

One traditional use of angel christmas ornaments is the tree topper.  In fact it is a tradition in many Slavic or Northern European countries to place a Christmas angel as opposed to a Christmas star at the top of the xmas tree.
